The Operation Safe Corridor was created to increase awareness and understanding of crime prevention and safety. This has been done by mapping out a corridor for pedestrians to walk along by using sign postage. Residents and visitors are encouraged to walk on these designated Operation Safe Corridor streets rather than side alleys or other less traveled streets. The more people using the corridor, the more "eyes and ears" are on the street creating natural surveillance of the area.
Look for the Operation Safe Corridor signs along Lark Street! |
Along the corridor there will be Safe Haven Businesses. These businesses will act as places where community members and visitors can go if they need assistance. Safe Haven Businesses can be distinguished by identifiable signs or decals placed in a window or on the door. Lark Street and Central Avenue uses a rainbow to display a feeling of safety and security. Safe Haven Businesses are available to everyone who visits these neighborhoods; including members of the LGBT community.
