Complete Streets Week

Albany has the third highest pedestrian fatality rate in the country for people over the ages of 65. AARP is working to make the streets safer for pedestrians of all ages.
During the week of April 19th, AARP’s Create The Good is calling on all of our partners, members, and volunteers across the state to join us to survey key intersections in your communities and evaluate their safety for walkers.  This massive, statewide effort is called “Complete Streets Week:  Making New York Walkable for All Generations.”

We would like to invite you to join us on Thursday April 22, 2010 when we will be surveying several intersections in the City of Albany. We will kick off our survey activities at the intersection of Madison Ave and Lark Street at 10am.

Our goal is to survey thousands of intersections and streets and use our findings to demonstrate to state policymakers the need for Complete Streets legislation that would create an approach to road design that balances the needs of all people including pedestrians. We need your help to make Complete Streets Week a success; join us at www.createthegood.org
